The situation was dire. Vulpix needed to finish this fight off. She'd hardly walked through the route yet, so she could run back to town if things got too bad, but what if the lilypad-hat-creature turned on her? She knew for a fact that she couldn't run as fast as what the hat was running before. Her life was dependant on Vulpix. Somehow, she felt like she was being a bit repetitive when she yelled out, "Ember" again, but she knew it was the only way. If it meant winning, then using one move again and again would be worth it.
Vulpix wasn't growling anymore. It seemed a little afraid, as well. Until now, this wild Pokémon couldn't fight back in her eyes. Now it was a completely different story. Now she was in trouble of her life fading away too.

And the finishing move was amazing. The best Ember yet, it flew straight into the Lombre's face, blinding it. It was burning, terribly. This would have done some sort of damage. A lot of damage. For the first time since the beginning of the battle, the Lombre stopped screaming. It stood there, blankly looking through Vulpix, and then collapsed. It had fainted.

Congratulations! Vulpix defeated the wild Lombre. Vulpix gained 15 experience points. Vulpix grew to level 6! There are five experience points leftover, so Vulpix is on level 6.5. Vulpix now has 22 HP.

"Good girl, Vulpix!" Sera cried. Her Pokémon had just saved her life, against a lunatic of a wild one, and was still alive to tell the tale. In barks, at least. The Vulpix was still a bit yappy from the fight, but slowly she was calming down, returning to normal. She wagged her tails a little bit, excited, but winced in pain when she took a step. She had a scratch on her body. She was hurt, which meant she'd be at a disadvantage if they came along another wild Pokémon along the journey, which was more likely than not.
She pulled out a Potion out of her bag and sprayed it on Vulpix, healing her back to her full potential. The scar gradually disappeared in a matter of seconds, and soon it looked as if nothing had happened at all. The wild beast was tough to beat though, and it would be an asset to have on her team, both for battle and for showing her the way through the marsh. She pulled out a revive from her pocket and gave it to the fallen creature, and then before it could do anything about it pulled a Poké Ball from her pocket and threw it. She knew Poké Balls had to detect life forms in order to work, so the using the Revive was necessary.

The Poké Ball opened up, a thin red mist emerging quickly, morphing into different shapes through the air, and then as if it was a hand surrounded the wild Lombre. It changed it to a red silhouette, and soon it was impossible to tell where it was in the mist. Then the mist receded back into the Poké Ball. All in the space of five seconds. The Poké Ball wobbled back and forth, but only a little bit. The Lombre didn't know what was going on, and soon the ball clasped shut for good. The Pokémon was caught.

Sera picked up the Poké Ball and then opened it, releasing Lombre back out. It was a friend now, and for the first time Sera saw it being calm. It sat there, staring off into the distance, then it turned its head around, staring directly at Sera. For a few seconds she thought the Lombre wasn't tame yet, but it started walking into the marsh, looking back every few steps to see if Sera was following him.
Vulpix could be vulnerable to all the water around, so she pulled out her Poké Ball and returned her. Vulpix reluctantly obliged, knowing that she wouldn't be of any use but still wanting to stay out. Sera walked on, following her Lombre through the marsh, wondering what could possibly happen next. Her Lombre was still weakened, but compared to the rest of the Pokémon that were supposed to be around here her new friend seemed to be quite strong. And nobody else had a type advantage, either.

Sera took her first step, and it was a great relief to find that Lombre was taking her in the right direction and not leading her into the water. It was now just a matter of how long the "path" through the Marsh would last. It was hard to tell whether where you were going to step would be dry or not, so having a local Pokémon as a guide was a huge advantage. Lombre, skipping happily ahead, was suddenly dragged to the ground, no longer poking its head out of the leaves. It yelled and screamed, and soon after you swear you could hear a hissing sound.

The snake twisted and curved, making itself hard to catch, or get a grip on. Luckily, it was purple and didn't camouflage that well with the surrounding environment. It then jabbed its tail into Lombre - Poison Sting! Lombre needed a command, and fast. It wasn't used to listening to somebody else and was growing more and more impatient, threatening to break down completely.

This was Lombre's first fight, a true test of loyalty. She hoped desperately in her mind that her new friend would follow her commands to the faint. Under the conditions she was in, it seemed like she'd probably win - there weren't any type advantages and the wild snake didn't seem that strong. But you could never judge on looks, and Sera wasn't about to make that mistake.
"Lombre, do that crazy arm thing!" She instructed, reminding herself to learn the names of the moves of her Pokémon. Lombre should win this. Besides, she had Vulpix if things went wrong.
